Herstory

Arizona Women in Tune is a lesbian/feminist choir located in Phoenix. Founded in 1993, we are celebrating our 16th season as a women’s community chorus with a strong presence in the local arts community, as well as the international LGBT choral movement. We perform three subscription series concerts each season, as well as participating in several local community festivals each year. Our singers are diverse in age, ethnicity, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, and economic and life experience.

Originally called TLC, we changed to Arizona Women in Tune in 1999, choosing a name that adequately reflected not only our desire for musical perfection, but clearly stated our desire to be a strong community “in tune” with each other. Beginning with only 10 singers, TLC gave her first performance at the Arizona Central Pride Festival in June, 1993 using music books discarded by our first conductor’s elementary school. We sang Our Call is for Freedom, Our Song is a Song of Peace, and thus began the public journey of the now 60-voice Arizona Women in Tune. A journey that has, to date, included two international choral festivals and numerous performances throughout Arizona.
