HAPPY BIRTHDAY AZWIT!!!

As we embark on our 20th season as an organization, we focus on the theme “Our Song, Our Legacy.” Our program for the year will consist of three subscription concerts, one in the late fall, one in the spring, and one in early summer. In addition, we will plan at least one performance in an area with strong GLBT community identity outside of Phoenix. The themes of all three subscription concerts will reflect how far we have come as a choir, community, and society, and also lay out the vision for our future. Our 20th season is such a cause for celebration!

Arizona Women In Tune began as a choir that sang about the struggles of our community. Our main focus was to provide a safe venue for Lesbians to gather together and sing. A group of about twelve passionate and courageous women who wanted to express their lives through music began this grass roots organization. Now twenty years later, AZWIT is over fifty members strong, and has become a pillar of the GLBT community in Phoenix and Central Arizona. Over the past twenty years, our mission of giving a voice to those who are underrepresented has evolved into a vision that carries far beyond our immediate community. We work not only for the GLBT struggle, but also for the silenced voices of all oppressed people beyond our borders.
