Arizona Women in Tune is now Phoenix Women’s Chorus
As we enter a new chapter in the life of our chorus, it is easy to get excited about the opportunities before us. Our new name, Phoenix Women’s Chorus, opens doors in marketing and in name recognition, both very appealing reasons to change the name of our organization. These reasons, however, were not what drove us to make the decision to change our name. We were guided by something deeper – by the unquenchable need to be bigger for our community; to reach out and be a haven for as many people as possible – for those who want to sing, who want to belong, who want to give back; to spread the word as far as possible about social justice and what that means to us; to be inclusive and open to all who are woman-identified and want to walk through our doors; to become equally recognized as our sister choruses around the country. For all these reasons, we have risen into our new name. Poet Edwin Markham famously wrote, “He drew a circle that shut me out – …We drew a circle and took him in.” From these simple yet transcendent words came the inspiration for our season theme: Draw the Circle Wide. In this circle, all are welcome. Join us in our first season as the Phoenix Women’s Chorus and help us draw that circle even wider.
